Mayor's Award

His Worship the Mayor of the Borough of North East Lincolnshire was there in person to launch the new Mayor’s award at the National Youth Week Celebration at the Town Hall.

The Mayor commented “I am honoured to be here at such a splendid event.  I am extremely proud, that while the media portrays many young people as ‘hoodie wearing yobs’ that so many local young people are involved in positive activities, some of which, like the presentation we’ve seen tonight are designed to challenge the viewpoint of older generations”.

“To see all children and young people engaged in positive activities, enjoying themselves and reaching their potential is a hope that I share with Councillor Cracknell, Andy Samson and many, many others”.

The Mayor’s Award has been developed in partnership with the Young People’s Support Service, to encourage young people to undertake a journey of learning and personal development in their free time.

The Mayor’s Award recognises commitment and personal achievements over 7, 15 or 30 hours and allows young people to develop from one level to the next as their level of responsibility increases.  Young people are also encouraged to progress onto other national schemes like the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Last year, in the forerunner to the Mayor’s Award, almost 900 young people achieved certificates for reaching learning targets such as improving fitness levels, developing team work skills, developing leadership skills or planning and leading youth work sessions.

The Mayor further commented “I hope that this year, with the development of the Pulselincs website and the launch of a new mobile unit, the Mayor’s Award will help to recognise many, many more achievements made by the outstanding children and young people of North East Lincolnshire”.
